The Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT, NQF level 6, Total credits: 132, SAQA Qualification ID: 97199) is a two-year distance learning course, designed partly by AIMSSEC and taught in partnership with the Institute of Mathematics and Science Teaching of the University of Stellenbosch (2009 – 2012) and with the University of Fort Hare (2010 – 2014) and North West University from 2016. Thus far, 215 teachers have graduated from this programme offered by AIMSSEC in partnership with Stellenbosch University and the University of Fort Hare.
The ACT is targeted at those qualified educators who, in the past, were unable to further their teacher’s diploma due to the closure of teacher training colleges. The diploma was, at the time, not sufficient to obtain a university accredited qualification therefore limiting their progress and access to further study. The ACT is the next step to a teacher’s diploma and a university accreditation qualification.
